At the Vancouver docks yesterday, the grainship Yorkton was being loaded with wheat. At 10 a.m., there
were seventeen water-line marks, each five centimetres apart, visible above the surface.
As the ship's hold filled, she settled into the water at the rate or ten centimetres perhour.
The tide was rising at eight centimetres per hour until it reached its peak at 2 p.m.; then
it began to fall at a rate of seven centrimetres per hour. At 3 p.m., the loading rate was
reduced so that the Yorkton settled into the water at only six centimetres per hour.
When loading stopped at 6 p.m., how many water-line marks were visible? |
